May 12: Design Deep Dive at Po Leung Kuk C. W. Chu College

Following the successful introduction to smart textiles, our F-STEAM team returned to Po Leung Kuk C. W. Chu College for the next exciting phase of the workshop. This session was dedicated to transforming technical knowledge into compelling fashion designs.

Dr. Wong guided the students through the essential principles of fashion creation. Through an engaging presentation, he showcased a variety of examples on styling, silhouette development, and creative drawing techniques, providing a solid foundation in fashion aesthetics.

A highlight of the day was Dr. Wong's live demonstration on fashion illustration. He emphasized that effective design communication is about concept and clarity, not perfect artistic skill. Students learned how to use simple lines and shapes to bring their visionary wearable tech ideas to life on paper.

Armed with these new skills and deeper fashion knowledge, the young designers began drafting their own sketches. They started the crucial process of blending the artistic elements of fashion with the technical specifications of electronic circuits and polymeric optical fibers (POF).

The creativity in the room was palpable as initial concepts began to take shape. We are incredibly impressed with the progress and can't wait to see these sketches evolve into tangible garments in the upcoming hands-on sessions.
