On March 29, secondary school teachers from ten different schools around Hong Kong participated in the two-day workshop entitled “STEAM for Creative Innovation: A Practice-Based Approach to Integrating Wearable Technology in Fashion Design”. Led by Prof. Jeanne Tan and a team of designers and engineers from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the workshop explored innovative ways to enhance STEAM education through fashion design, smart textiles, and polymeric optical fiber (POF) textiles.

The session began with an in-depth introduction to key concepts, equipping teachers with the knowledge to integrate cutting-edge technologies into their classrooms. Participants then dove into hands-on activities, gaining practical experience in:
Sewing and draping techniques
Bundling and working with POF textiles
Applying smart textiles for prototyping

These exercises provided valuable skills for the prototyping stage, empowering educators to bring creative, tech-infused fashion projects to their students.
